Father Roy Campbell

To My Family of the
Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
THANK GOD FOR ALLOWING ME TO SERVE YOU!
Thanks to Archbishop Donald Wuerl for appointing me as your new pastor. Thank all of you, for welcoming me to Assumption Parish and allowing me to learn from you and to serve you. I look forward to meeting and working with you.
I came to you from St. Augustine’s parish in Washington, where I was Parochial Vicar for the past year. I completed my seminary formation at Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Massachusetts. My ordination to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ by Archbishop Wuerl, took place at the
Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on May 26, 2007.
Before entering the seminary, my home parish was St. Gabriel’s in Washington, and my home is in Silver Spring, MD, where my mother lives. I have three brothers and two sisters, along with five nephews, eight nieces, five grandnephews and two grandnieces (and another grand nephew or niece on the way).
I heard our Lord’s call to the priesthood a little later in life than many men. I had just completed my fourth year of Permanent Diaconate formation for the Archdiocese of Washington. I was originally in the class of men that Cardinal McCarrick ordained Deacons in 2004. Deacon Mac Smith and I are classmates. I did not complete my fifth and final year of Diaconate formation. Instead, I started priestly formation at Blessed John XXIII in 2003, a seminary specifically designed for men like me — with a later in life calling to a priestly vocation.
Shortly before being accepted as a seminarian, I retired from a thirty-three-year career with Bank of America. I majored in Zoology at Howard University, originally planning to become a veterinarian. While managing banking centers for Bank of America, I earned a graduate degree in Retail Bank Management from the University of Virginia, before transferring to the bank’s services division as a project manager.
I attended Archbishop Carroll High, Sacred Heart and Bruce Elementary grade schools in Washington.
I want to thank Father Charles Green for his love and service to you as pastor. Thanks also to Father Scott Woods for giving you the same love and service in Father Green’s absence.
As I learn to be a part of such a faith-filled caring parish and its ministries, I ask for your prayers — as I pray for you. Please do not hesitate to ask me questions or give me constructive suggestions. Always, let me know how I can help and serve you!
May God bless you and keep you!
